Hawaii’s Kailua-Kona Ellison Onizuka Kona Airport, is all set to mark the opening of a new premier FBO – the Big Island Jet Center – on 14 December.

Located at the south end of the airport’s runway in a temporary terminal, the FBO complements the airport’s only private fuel farm and general aviation ramp, which at nine acres is capable of supporting aircraft up to an Airbus A319. Currently housed in a temporary terminal, Big Island Jet Center is preparing to begin phase one of construction of a world-class 7,500 sq.ft. executive terminal, which will feature a distinctly Hawaiin feel, showcasing a true “aloha spirit” with cutting-edge amenities and services. Construction of this new facility is expected to be complete in late 2024.

“We couldn’t be happier to open in time for the holiday season, providing exceptional services to Hwawaii’s seasonal traffic and general aviation community alike,” said David Johnston, Big Island Jet Center’s Senior Partner. “Kailua-Kona is home to exquisite resorts; our aim is to offer that exclusive resort experience from wheels down to wheels up as the airport’s sole independent FBO. Big Island Jet Center is an investment in the Kailua-Kona community.”

Phase two of the of the new facility will see the construction of environmentally sensitive hangars to safely house aircraft. All hangars will be built to the highest standards of Hawaiian building codes to withstand wind and storms.

The fully-serviced Blue Island Jet Center, which is an Avfuel-branded FBO, has also partnered with local hotels, resorts and activity centres to facilitate access to discounted rates and easy transfers.
