Hungarian low-fare carrier Wizz Air has relaunched its route to Katowice in southern Poland from Malmö. The service was paused during the pandemic.

Having already invested in developing its network from Sweden with the launch of three new routes from Malmö to Banja Luka, Sarajevo and Tirana, the resumed service to Katowice will see the low-fare airline offer a total of 14 direct routes from the Swedish hub to destinations in central and eastern Europe.

International traffic at Malmö consists largely of Wizz Air passengers and the increased access is important for both holidaymakers and people travelling to visit family, relatives and friends. Located in southern Poland, just northeast of Krakow, Katowice has undergone a major transformation in recent years – from a city of heavy industry to a modern regional capital and a metropolitan area with two million residents. It is also one of the greenest cities in Poland, with forests and parks making up nearly half the surface area. In addition, the city was the first in the country to introduce a low-emission economy plan.

The only carrier to offer an air link between Malmö and Katowice, Wizz Air launched its service on 28 March and will operate twice weekly with A320 and A321 aircraft types.
