UK regional airline, Eastern Airways, will resume its service between Manchester and Southampton from 22 June.

An initial daily weekday service to Southampton will be the first route to be resumed from the airline’s Manchester hub. The frequency will be increased as appropriate through July, August and September. By resuming business and leisure connections, the airline hopes to help the economic recovery of the North-West.

Eastern Airways stepped in to protect regional connectivity to Southampton following the demise of Flybe earlier this year. Since March the independent operator had moved quickly prior to return back to its own standalone booking facilities although the COVID-19 pandemic had put a halt on those plans.

The Humberside Airport based airline provides a network of routes from airports including Aberdeen, Alicante, Anglesey, Belfast City, Cardiff, Dublin, Humberside, Isle of Man, Leeds Bradford, London City, Manchester, Newcastle, Southampton, Teesside International and Wick John O’Groats. With COVID-19 restrictions now starting to ease the regional carrier’s services are being carefully reintroduced with extensive cleaning measures on-board the aircraft and throughout all aspects of the airport.

Expressing his delight at the resumption of the service between Manchester and Southampton, Roger Hage, Easter Airways’ General Manager Commercial and Operations the airline has carefully considered the re-start frequency @to support the major regions of the UK and ensure regional connectivity returns given its vital role in recovering economic prosperity.”

Meanwhile Julian Carr, Aviation Director at Manchester Airport, said: “It’s great to see Eastern Airways resume its service to Southampton from Manchester Airport, providing vital connectivity between the two regions and beyond. With a host of safety measures already in place, the security of all our passengers and staff continues to be our number one priority, as we connect people to places domestically and internationally.”
