Milan Linate biometric boarding

Following a successful trial period, Italy’s Milan Linate Airport is now offering a biometric boarding service for passengers. The ‘FaceBoarding’ service allows passengers who opt for it to pass through security and board aircraft using a biometric facial recognition system.

Open to all airlines willing to integrate their check-in and boarding procedures with the system, FaceBoarding is currently being used by Ita Airways and SAS as the first airlines to sign up to the project.

Passengers who volunteer to register for the service either at the airport kiosks or directly from their mobile devices (the mobile app will be live in June) can then shorten the process of checking identification documents and benefit from enhanced security. They will no longer need to present their documents and/ or boarding passes at the pre-security turnstiles and boarding gates, which will become self-service.

SEA, which operates Milan Linate, worked with Thales and Dormakaba to develop and implement the biometric processing system and dedicated gates, which were deployed in collaboration with the Italian Civil Aviation Authority (ENAC) and the Italian State Police.
