Regional Gateway editor Chloë Greenbank summarises the latest happenings across airports serving business, regional and low-fare routes.

The benefits of joining forces with another organisation are far reaching. Whether it’s the sharing of costs, networks, skills and resources or improving efficiency, encouraging innovation and achieving shared goals, effective collaboration is a powerful tool.

With that in mind I’m thrilled to share that Regional Gateway has partnered with the route development forum specialist, AviaDev, to be the official show news provider for the AviaDev Africa and Europe 2020 events. The African forum will be taking place in Madagascar 6-8 May, 2020 (yes, I know it’s a tough gig, but I’ll take one for the team), while the location of the European event taking place in November is yet to be confirmed.

As part of the agreement we will also be contributing to AviaDev’s podcasts. This week you can listen in to me talking to Avia Dev Europe’s Managing Director, Juraj Toth. On the table for discussion were topics including sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), which has been in the spotlight following the World Economic Forum in Davos, as well as the launch of a new regional carrier for Lübeck Airport and the proposed mega-hub in Addis Ababa. Several of the topics discussed were great demonstrations of how much more can be achieved when two or more organisations come together.

Sticking with the spirit of collaboration, in this week’s newsletter find out how ANS Finland has partnered with Rohde & Schwarz, how the three airports in the Aéroports Côte d’Azur group are working alongside each other to put an end to greenhouse gas emissions, and why airports across New Zealand are speaking out collectively about concerns over a rise in domestic air fares.

As the 18th-century American-English political activist Thomas Paine once said: “It’s not in numbers but in unity our great strength lies,” – a mantra that’s well versed among those working in the global airport community.

The editor’s comment is published weekly as an accompaniment to the Regional Gateway e-newsletter. If you do not currently receive our email updates, you can subscribe here.
