As part of a strategic partnership with ANA – Aeroportos de Portugal/ Vinci Airports, Vision-Box has launched the “Biometric Experience by Vinci Airports” across five air transport hubs in Portugal. Having unveiled the programme at Lisbon and Porto airports at the beginning of this year, it will now be rolled out at Faro, Funchal and Ponta Delgada in the second half of 2024. The initial phase is being enabled on TAP Air Portugal flights within the Schengen space. Additional airlines and a wider array of destinations will be incorporated at a later date.

Orchestrated by Vision-Box’s Seamless Journey Platform the programme places the company as a specialist in biometric technology and Portugal at the forefront of seamless travel experiences. Covering key airports in the country where a passenger’s face is the only thing required for them to fly, Vision-Box’s platform integrates all stakeholders into one single journey and identity management ecosystem. Firstly, travellers will need to enrol at home effortlessly via ANA Aeroportos’ mobile app, powered by Vision-Box Mobile ID SDK. Alternatively they can register at Vision-Box’s biometrically enabled self-service check-in kiosks at the airport.

Once enrolled, they can breeze through the airport using only their face as ID at biometrically enabled Vision-Box’s Security Gates and during the boarding process of selected flights via biometric Vision Box’s Self-Boarding Gates. The technology is powered by AI-enabled facial recognition algorithms.

“We are very excited about this launch, which represents the most advanced investment in innovation at airports with tangible results for the traveller experience,” said Thierry Ligonniere, CEO of ANA Aeroportos. “Facial recognition technology will enable a faster, simpler journey where travellers gain comfort and time, ensuring complete security and confidentiality of their data and the process. We are excited about this launch and the expansion of biometrics to more airlines and airports, making the boarding process even more efficient.”

Ligonniere was joined by Vision-Box CEO an dFounder, Miguel Leitmann, who added: “This project represents a dedication from Vision-Box to elevate service quality, enhance the airport experience and contribute to Portugal’s tourism goals with paperless arrivals and departures. We are proud to support this programme, reflecting our commitment to revolutionising seamless travel practices globally and taking one step forward towards a more connected world.”
