Indian regional airline Trujet has announced it is adding Bidar – in the north-eastern state of Karnataka – as a new destination within its UDAN services.

The airline is adding this destination as part of its UDAN services, aiming to boost regional connectivity, in alignment with the country’s Regional Connectivity Scheme (RCS), and the new route will support the airline in its aims to improve socio-economic growth throughout all tiers of India, supporting business and leisure travel. The advancements in air connectivity are expected to benefit employment rates and to increase the economic development beyond First Tier cities across India.

“With this Trujet service travel time considerably came down. This service will help to the development of ‘Kalyana Karnataka’ in Bidar area,” said Mr Yeddyurappa. Chief Minister of Karnataka. The original 12-hour bus journey was reduced to only one hour and 40 minutes by air.

Bidar Airport has recently welcomed GMR Hyderabad International Airport Limited (GHIAL) as its new operator. Mr SGK Kishore, Executive Director – South, GMR Airports and CEO – GHIAL, said, “We are very pleased to partner with the Government of Karnataka to support efforts for all-round development of Bidar and nearby regions.”

It is hoped that connectivity to this destination will lead to a boost to its economy with the accessibility for tourists and locals.
