Swedish airport operator, Swedavia, has welcomed multiple new routes across two of its hubs.

At Lulea Airport, international connectivity is growing with three new routes to London, Paris and Dusseldorf, due to start this month. Scandinavian Airlines has launched SAS’s new direct route to London Heathrow. The non-stop service will be operated on Mondays and Fridays until mid-March 2023.

“We are so pleased we can celebrate the launch of service to and from London, after a wait of several years,” said Ann-Christin Viklund, Airport Director at Lulea Airport.

“The connectivity from Lulea Airport to an international destination with such great demand, as well as to the popular destinations of Paris and Dusseldorf, is fantastic and a sign of strength, indicating how attractive the region is. It is validation of the long-term work that we at Swedavia, together with the hospitality industry and businesses in the region, have carried out for a number of years. The new direct routes are an important addition for both business travellers and the leisure travel segment,” Viklund continued.

Eurowings is also expanding its services in Sweden with the launch of new direct routes to Rome and Stuttgart from Stockholm Arlanda. While there has been strong growth in passenger traffic flying to Italy in recent years with Rome the biggest Italian destination from Stockholm Arlanda, Germany is Sweden’s second biggest trade partner and a vital market for both business travel and the leisure travel segment.

The German low-fare carrier is launching its new services in spring 2023 and will also expand its capacity to Berlin, Faro, Larnaca, Malaga, Nice, Palma de Mallorca and Prague.

In late March the airline will also launch a link from Goteborg Landvetter to Berlin four times a week, in addition to non-stop service to Dusseldorf from Kiruna Airport and Lulea Airport.

“There is great faith in the Swedish air travel market and the growth of Eurowings in time for the summer season is another sign of this,” said Elizabeth Axtelius, Director of Aviation Business at Swedavia. “Rome is by far one of our most popular destinations for Swedish tourists and Eurowings’ service will be a nice addition to our existing range of destinations…. Germany is one of Arlanda’s biggest markets and it is especially great to have the new direct route to Stuttgart. There is strong demand for this destination and the new connectivity is important for both leisure and business travellers, not least Germans travelling to Sweden.”
