Palma de Mallorca Airport in Spain has appointed Siemens Logistics to operate and maintain its baggage handling system. The service contract covers the conveyor system, two tilt-tray sorters, 192 check-ins as well as several baggage reclaim carousels. The two-year contract includes the option of additional one-year extensions.

One of Spain’s busiest air transport hubs, Palma handled around 29 million passengers in 2022. Siemens Logistics CEO, Michael Schneider, explained his company has been working with Aena, which operates Palma de Mallorca, for 17 years. “Our highly qualified staff are very familiar with the system at Palma de Mallorca Airport. That is an excellent basis for us to provide the airport with a first-class service.”

The airport features an approximately 10km long conveyor system to transport bags throughout the airport. Preventive maintenance includes inspecting machines and components at regular intervals and monitoring the equipment consistently. Siemens Logistics capabilities include predictive maintenance, which will allow even better services on the sorter system in the future.
