The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has awarded a contract to transform its “Radio Replacement” project to Rohde & Schwarz. The project, which involves the installation of more than 200 new radios aims to modernise the radio communications system at the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre in Abu Dhabi. The agreement was signed during last week’s Dubai Air Show.

In addition to the new radio installation, the project will also enhance the already installed voice communication system (VCS). Rohde & Schwarz’s market-leading R&S Series 5200 (next generation air traffic control radio) played a pivotal role in securing this contract as its multiple network interfaces enable a seamless integration into the existing infrastructure.

H.E. Partnering with Rohde & Schwarz will elevate this project, leveraging their extensive experience, local presence and cutting-edge technologies. This collaboration will significantly contribute to the development process of the project.”

Meanwhile, Rohde & Schwarz’s MD , Emirates, Patrick Brodda, underlined the importance of the collaboration in reflecting his company’s commitment to delivering state-of-the-art communication solutions to the UAE aviation sector. He also reinforced that the “Radio Replacement” project is a significant step in the digital transformation towards enhancing the efficiency and reliability of the air navigation system in Abu Dhabi, ultimately contributing to the safety and seamless operation of air traffic.
