Arizona’s Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport has marked its busiest year ever, welcoming 1,917,911 passengers in Fiscal Year 2023 (FY23). Setting a record for commercial passenger activity, the passenger traffic for FY23 represents a 5.6% increase over FYY22 figures, the previous record for Gateway Airport.

Apache Junction Mayor Chip Wilson, Chairman of the Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport Authority (PMGAA) Board of Directors said: “The growth of Gateway Airport over the past few years has been phenomenal. The airport’s continued growth is providing tremendous economic benefit for the entire greater Phoenix region. We look forward to welcoming even more sun-seeking visitors through the airport this year.”

In line with growth in passenger traffic, the Arizona hub is currently constructing a five-gate, 30,000 sq. ft. terminal and enclosed pedestrian walkway connecting the airline ticket counters to the TSA security screening checkpoint. Both projects will be complete in early 2024. In addition, the airport has opened several new food and beverage concessions in the last year to provide more options for the growing number of air travellers choosing the airport.

Allegiant Air recently announced a new nonstop service between Gateway Airport and Portland beginning in November.
