The gateway to western Australia, Perth Airport, has welcomed the announcements that both Thai Airways and South African Airways will restart services from March and April respectively this year.

Thai Airways will recommence its daily service between Perth and Bangkok from 31 March with the airport’s Chief Commercial and Aviation Officer Kate Holsgrove, saying: “The return of this service means tourists, students and businesses have the option of a non-stop connection to Bangkok which will deliver a significant 186,368 seats and 14,000 tonnes of cargo capacity to the Perth market annually.”

She also noted that with Thailand being among western Australia’s top 10 largest trading partners and a significant market for international students, the resumption of non-stop flights will help boost both the economy of both regions.

“Growing international seat capacity by securing non-stop services to international destinations has and continues to be a priority for Perth Airport.”

Meanwhile, South African Airways will resume its services between Johannesburg and Perth from 28 April. The service will be operated three times per week on an Airbus A340-300 aircraft, delivering 78,936 seats to the Perth market.

“Once flights resume, we will continue working closely with South African Airways with the aim of rebuilding back to a daily service,” noted Holsgrove.

She added that the return of South African Airways’ flights is great news for Perth and western Australian residents who have family connections in South Africa and those looking to head to South Africa and to explore the rest of the continent on holiday.

“The return of South African Airways’ services between Perth and Johannesburg also provides an alternative itinerary for those travelling to South America with flights also available to Sao Paulo, Brazil from either Johannesburg or Cape Town with South African Airways,” she added.

South African Airways will also operate its service on A340-300 aircraft with a total of 253 seats configured with 38 business class seats and 215 economy class seats.
