Flyvbird, which is being marketed as flyv, has unveiled a strategic route development partnership with Norrköping Airport in Sweden to strengthen plans to deliver low-cost, on demand regional air services. The announcement was made earlier this week on 17 October during Routes World, which both companies attended.

The agreement means Sweden will be the second country after Germany to embrace the innovative flyv model with the innovative carrier planning to base one of its nine-seat Tecnam Traveller P2012 aircraft at the Swedish regional airport. Norrköping is situated 135km southwest of Stockholm.

Commenting on the importance of having supportive airport partners to help market its services and attract investors, flyvbird CEO, Anton Luz said: “We have been speaking with the airport since the summer and they are completely on board with our philosophy.”

In line with its commitment to enhancing connectivity in rural areas of Europe using smaller, more accessible airports, flyv will use an innovative algorithmic approach to construct custom-made flight networks on decentralised airport routes. Its app-based, on-demand air taxi services have been designed to give the passenger greater flexibility and efficiency as well as competitive fares.

Svante Swärd Rudström, Norrköping Airport’s Business Development Manager said: “flyv offers a revolutionary approach to sustainable, on-demand regional air connectivity and we’re thrilled to be embarking on this partnership with them.”

The airport has ambitious plans to be a carbon-free airport leader and is exploring various sustainable initiatives and partnerships, including its collaboration with fly. It is also currently working on an on-site solar installation project and is investigating opportunities to produce green hydrogen.

Starting initially with a fleet of four Tecnam Traveller P2012s, flyv aims to grow its fleet up to 50-plus low-cost and reduced-emissions aircraft in the next decade with aircraft models being adapted in line with customer demand. On 16 October, flyv revealed it had signed a Letter of Intent with Eviation in the US to take 25 all-electric Alice aircraft, complementing the Electra.aero hybrid aircraft commuter liner.
