Munich Airport robot

Passengers travelling through Munich Airport in Germany might find themselves shopping at a self-driving robot. Originally designed for use in the hotel and healthcare sector, the introduction of the Jeeves service robot at the German hub marks the first time in the world a “snackbot” has been deployed at an airport.

Developed by Munich start-up Robotise, the snackbot is being tested for one year at the airport.

The name Jeeves is based on a loyal and competent servant from an English novel. In keeping with its namesake, the snackbot offers a selection of chilled soft drinks and snacks that can be purchased via various cashless payment methods, including Apple Pay, Google Pay and all major credit cards.

Standing 110 centimetres tall, Jeeves moves autonomously through the gate area on levels 4 and 5 in Terminal 2 at Munich Airport. It stops when passengers come near it or step into its path, and once they have selected their goods can complete the purchase using a large touchscreen.

In addition to improving logistics and in line with Munich Airport’s profile as an innovation hub, the robot will also be used to research passenger acceptance and create added value for the passenger travel experience.
