Kempegowda International airport Bengaluru (BLR Airport) has commissioned German technology provider Materna to equip its new Terminal 2, which was completed at the end of 2022, with 34 self bag drop (SBD) systems.

The airport, which is operated by Bangalore Airport, chose Materna based on its successful collaboration in the past. In 2019 Materna implemented its self-service solutions in the airport’s Terminal 1.

In February, 2023, the Flex.Go systems were put into operation, with Air Asia India & Air Vistara being the first airlines to offer the technology to passengers. The SBDs are equipped with artificial intelligence-based dimensional and conveyability detection to ensure smooth and secure bag drops. Other features such as biometrics can also be added at a later stage, while the integration of an excess baggage payment solution is currently in progress.

“Everyone involved is absolutely honoured to take our collaboration with Bangalore International Airport further and we want to thank BIAL for their continued trust in our products,” said Georg Oschmann, MD of Materna.
