Southern African carrier Airlink has touched down in Malawi, adding both Blantyre and Lilongwe to its regional network.

The airline landed at Blantyre on the afternoon of 6 September, making Malawi the latest country in Airlink’s network, which now extends to 46 destinations. The new routes will be served by 37-seat Embraer Regional Jets with flights being operated three days a week.

“In launching Airlink’s services, we are helping to establish Malawi as an attractive destination for tourism and business and support its economic diversification strategy by providing convenient, reliable and competitive flights to Johannesburg and with convenient connections to other Airlink destinations and the rest of the world with our constellation of long-haul partners,” said Airlink CEO and Managing Director, Rodger Foster.

Tourist attractions in the southern African country include Lake Malawi (Africa’s largest and ninth biggest in the world), wildlife, adventure and a rich cultural heritage. The country has also embarked on a programme to revitalise its economy and build a prosperous, self-reliant and industrialised middle-income country.
