While airport activity on a global level witnessed an increase of 23.12 per cent during the 2023/24 Christmas break compared to the same pre-Covid period (2019/2020), Italy fell by 5.62 per cent, according to analysis by Targa Telematics.

A global player in the field of technologies dedicated to the Internet of Things and the development of digital solutions and platforms for connected mobility, the Observatory of Targa Telematics analysed data on average daily hours of activity of Ground Support Equipment (GSE). The IT company has more than 3.2 million connected assets, including service vehicles (such as baggage tractors, passenger buses, luggage loaders, towing vehicles etc) operating within airport areas.

The analysis also found that airports across Europe in general performed well with an increase of 5.88 per cent, with the UK slightly behind, albeit still growing by 3.11 per cent.
