The Highlands and Islands Airport Limited group (HIAL) has awarded a turnkey contract to Systems Interface (SIL) to supply, install and commission replacement Instrumental Runway Visual Range Systems (IRVR) at Inverness and Kirkwall Airports in Scotland.

To meet ongoing requirements at the airports, the end-of-life systems will be replaced with modern hardware and software consisting of Biral Heated Visibility Sensors and Heated Ambient Light Sensors and DTN MetConsole’s Central Processing Systems. Auxiliary equipment includes ICAO compliant 2.5m RVR Fibreglass Mast, Modems, communication cables and power cables.

As the prime contractor, SIL has been tasked with the overall responsibility for system design, integration, and construction design management.

SIL has also teamed with Air Navigation Services Ltd (ANSL) to deliver this project who bring relevant installation and engineering experience which includes the management of transition and operational considerations to bring the new IRVR systems into service.
