Gainesville Regional Airport (GNV) is welcoming a direct service to Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL), operated by low-fare carrier Silver Airways.

GNV will be welcoming local dignitaries, representatives from Silver Airways and passengers on 21 August to celebrate the launch of the new route.

“We are very excited to add another intrastate destination, connections to the Caribbean and beyond, with Silver Airways,” said a spokesperson at GNV. “There has always been a strong demand for this route, particularly from our University of Florida students and their families, professors and alumni. Broward County is the largest source of UF Students (5,018) and living UF alumni (24,913) who will hopefully utilize this new air service opportunity, along with business and leisure travellers throughout our region.”

“The GNV-FLL route adds a fifth international hub (along with ATL, CLT, DFW and MIA) that afford our travellers convenient options to get to just about anywhere in the world in one stop,” the spokesperson added. “The new route is not only a gateway to the Caribbean, there are also codeshare opportunities on Silver Airways with United Airlines and JetBlue.”
