Emerald Airlines, the operator of Aer Lingus Regional, is launching flights between Belfast City Airport in Northern Ireland and Manchester Airport in the North of England later this month.

From 27 March, the route will be operated three times daily, further improving connections between the two cities.

Manchester Airport Managing Director, Karen Smart, said: “We are thrilled to see Emerald offering this service to Belfast City Airport.

“Connectivity between Manchester and Belfast is vital for the tourism industry in both cities, for those with friends and family members on the other side of the Irish Sea, and also unlocks our wider route network across four continents within one stop for travellers in Northern Ireland.”

Emerald Airlines is taking over routes that were previously operated by Air Lingus Regional and British Airways to ensure connectivity to and from Northern Ireland. The airline has also announced services to Birmingham, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Leeds-Bradford and Exeter.

“We want to be the airline of choice for customers travelling to and from Belfast City Airport and we are well positioned to deliver on that objective,” said Conor McCarthy, CEO of Emerald Airlines.

Flights will be operated by the ATR72-600, the latest generation of turboprop aircraft combining unmatched environmental and economic performance. The ultra-low fuel burn aircraft emits up to 40% less CO2 on these short, regional flights compared to similar aircraft.
