Vinci Airports, which operates six airports in the Dominican Republic, has been granted a 30-year extension of its concession contract at Santo Domingo in the capital, as well as Puerto Plata, Samana, La Isabela and Barahona and the national airport of Arroyo Barril.

The French airport operator has been overseeing operations at the six airports since 2016 through its subsidiary Aerodom. In line with the extended agreement, it will be responsible for financing, operating, maintaining, developing and upgrading the modernisation of airports under the concession agreement. Most notably it will be tasked with building and operating a new US$250 million passenger terminal at Santo Domingo Airport, where it will also continue to implement its environmental action plan, including the expansion of solar power plants and deployment of wastewater treatment plant as well as waste sorting centres.

The agreement will see Aerodom make upfront payments to the Dominican state of US$775 million immediately and a further US$475 million at the financial close of H1, 2024. The company will also invest US$830 million in the airports’ infrastructure, including the investment in the new Santo Domingo terminal.

Since Aerodom joined the Vinci Airports’ portfolio, traffic at the Domincan hubs its operates have grown by 6% between 2016 and 2019 and reached from January to November  2023, +17% of 2019 levels for the same period. In 2022, Aerodom’s contribution to Vinci revenue and Ebitda was €191 million and €161 million respectively.
