ProColombia, Colombia’s trade, tourism and investment agency, has confirmed new international links with Switzerland. The twice weekly Zurich-Bogota-Catagena-Zurich service operated by the Swiss leisure carrier, Edelweiss, will start this November and was announced following discussions at Routes World, which took place in Istanbul, Turkey, 15-17 October.

The announcement is further indication of the South American country’s strong growth as an international destination. It has also seen a strong recovery following the global pandemic with more than 4.5 million visitors to the country in 2022, exceeding 2019 figures.

According to ProColombia, the country has also witnessed a 32% growth in international capacity driven primarily by domestic routes. The country is now focusing on new routes and markets for the year ahead with a particular focus on tourism.

Commenting on the addition of this latest service by Edelweiss, Gilberto Salcedo, VP of Tourism at ProColombia said it “is the latest sign of Colombia’s strong growth as an international tourism destination and our commitment to working with the global aviation industry to drive increased capacity and connectivity and sustainability.”

Salcedo also noted that the upcoming Routes Americas exhibition, which will be held in Bogota in March 2024 will be the “perfect occasion for hte sector to see the progress we have made and our country’s potential as an investment partner, as well as our unique hospitality, culture and nature, which are attracting the world to discover Colombia, the country of beauty.”
