Situated in Australia’s ninth largest region, Warnervale, Central Coast Council is currently developing a detailed airport master planning process for its Central Coast Airport to deliver an air transport hub designed specifically to support the general aviation (GA) sector in New South Wales (NSW).

In line with the Central Coast Airport Development Framework proposal for a Request for Information (RFI), the Council is reaching out to the local general aviation sector and business individuals for information to help determine future demand requirements and use of the airport.

The Central coast Airport Masterplan will set a coherent framework for development while providing certainty for the community to protect environmental and conservation plan by identifying and excising these lands from any developable land. The GA hub will complement other planned developments in the local area including Warnervale business and education precinct, Warnervale town centre and Wyong Employment Zone industrial lands. It is being described as being a key driver for regional economic development and for the generation of regional employment opportunities, as well as a stimulus for the tourist industry and a key regional infrastructure project which will provide air transport options for residents and improved the region’s economic competitiveness.

Following a survey carried out in late 2021 by the Council, broadly 75% of the 602 residents surveyed indicated they were either “strongly in support” or “supportive” of the airport concept. Meanwhile, 90% were “supportive or somewhat supportive.” Respondents also rated creation of employment opportunities and local business opportunities as the highest development objectives of the proposal.
