Data from the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and compiled by the Press Association show that Wizz Air was the least punctual carrier from UK airports with departures delayed on average by 46 minutes and six seconds behind schedule in 2022.

The Hungarian carrier operates flights from eight airports in the UK, including Luton, Gatwick, Birmingham and Edinburgh. It was followed by Tui as the second-worst punctual airline with an average delay of 40 minutes and 18 seconds, while Qatar Airways had an average delay of 31 minutes and 48 seconds.

Norwegian Air Shuttle recorded the best performance with an average delay of just 13 minutes and 42 seconds.

The analysis, which was conducted by Press Association lists 31 airlines and took into account all scheduled  and chartered departures from UK airports by airlines with more than 2.500 flights.

Delays in departures from UK airports have been blamed on the swell in passenger traffic following COVID-19 and the unwinding of travel restrictions.
