Flights to both Barcelona in Spain and Newquay in Cornwall have taken off from Belfast City Airport.

Vueling Airlines will operate the twice-weekly link to Barcelona with the inaugural flight receiving a traditional water cannon salute when it arrived in Belfast on Friday 2 July.

Katy Best Commercial Director at Belfast City Airport commented: “The addition of Vueling Airlines to Belfast City Airport will provide passengers with more choice this summer, bringing the total number of UK and European destinations served from the airport to 26.” She also noted that Vueling offers convenient flight times and “we are sure that passengers will take advantage of its competitive prices and great customer service to enjoy a relaxing break.”

It was a busy end to the week with the flights to the popular Spanish city swiftly followed by a new service to Cornwall Newquay taking off on the morning of Saturday 3 July. Throughout the summer flights will be operated by British Airways with up to six flights a week connecting passengers with the southwest of England.

While noting that the route to Cornwall is launching at an incredibly time for UK aviation, Tom Stoddart, BA CityFlyer’s Managing Director said he hoped “this service will be valued by customers and the local communities.”

Meanwhile, Judith Davis, Operations Manager at Belfast City Airport, added: “The launch of flights to Newquay from Belfast City Airport will be welcome news for many, giving passengers the option to holiday closer to home, reconnect with family and friends, and take a relaxing break by the coast.”
