Barra Airport is celebrating the success of its refurbishment project, which was completed in August 2023.

The project saw the Highlands and Islands Airports Limited Group (HIAL) invest approximately £1.5 million in modernising the facility. This included upgrading the café facilities, increasing the comfort and efficiency of the original terminal and improving the thermal efficiency of the building using an external wall insulation (EWI) system for its main building.

Barra Airport is known for its unusual beach location, with its flight schedule governed by the ebb and flow of the tide. It operates flights to and from Glasgow twice daily and has seen its passenger numbers almost double since it first opened in 1978, reaching 14,800 passengers pre-COVID-19.
