The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has unveiled a New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB) at Tiruchirappalli Airport in Tamil Nadu. According to AAI, 112 Crore was invested in the two-level NITB which has the capacity to serve up to 4,500,000 passengers annually and 3480 passengers per hour during peak periods.

The terminal features state-of-the-art amenities and modern lounges to enhance the passenger journey, with 60 check-in counters, 44 departure and 60 arrival immigration counters to ensure efficient passenger processing. Locally inspired artwork and artefacts are dotted throughout the terminal to reflect the sense of place.

Meanwhile, a newly constructed apron at the airport will augment the aircraft parking capacity from 8 to 19 aircraft up to the Airbus A321 model.

The investment in the new terminal is part of a wider RS. 20,140 Crores investment by the government for various infrastructure and development projects in railway, highway, seaport, petroleum and natural gas, atomic energy and higher education sectors.
