Through its joint venture Air bp-Jio, the fuelling giant has expanded its presence in India with a new fuel facility at Rajkot International Airport in Hirasar.

Air bp-Jio began fuelling operations at the new airport following its official opening in September and has completed more than 575 fuellings at the new location to date. A greenfield airport serving Rajkot and the Saurashtra region in the state of Gujarat, Rajkot the air transport hub is owned by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) and is capable of handling 2,800 passengers during peak hours.

In order to be on schedule operationally, Air bp-Jio had to work to to a tight schedule to secure regulatory approvals and deliver fuelling facilities in time for the airport’s official opening on 10 September.

“Air bp-Jio excelled in making the fuel station ready in a short space of time with all regulatory compliances and approvals,” said Diganta Borah, Airport Director, Rajkot International Airport. “The successful commencement of flight operations at Rajkot International Airport was very much dependent on Air bp-Jio’s service. The team worked hard and met the target as promised.”

With the third largest domestic aviation market globally, India is poised to become the third largest and one of the fastest growing aviation markets after the US and China. The country is currently home to some 140 operational airports and it is anticipated that this figure will grow to 220 in the near term, which represents a rapid expansio up rom 74 airports in 2014. Rajkot Airport marks Air bp-Jio’s 31st location in India.
