Budapest Airport has announced four new routes with Wizz Air, starting by the end of the year: Marrakech in Morocco, Genoa in Italy, Girona in Spain and Memmingen in Germany.
Two of these destinations – Girona and Genoa, are brand new to the Hungarian airport, while Marrakech and Memmingen are reinstated routes. This announcement follows the recent addition of Lyon and Cairo to the airport’s destination network and shows a marked expansion of Budapest Airport, with the intention of creating more options for passengers and facilitating travel to popular destinations.
Wizz Air flights to Genoa will take off in late October and will run three-times weekly. This route will simplify the journey for passengers who previously had to bypass Milan to reach the destination, and will open the market to cruise-goers.
The link with Girona will also start up in late October. The service will operate three-times weekly and as well as serving the Catalonian region will also offer a gateway to Southern France.
Meanwhile, the revived Marrakech route will launch in late October, operating twice-weekly as the only link between Budapest and the North African hub. This route was last provided in 2019 by Ryanair.
Memmingen, which will be served four-times weekly, is a reinstated route that was also last operated by Ryanair back in 2012. Starting from 17 December, this link will offer an alternative travel option to Bavaria and Austria.
“This expansion is a great revival and introduction of destinations to our route map,” said Máté Ritter, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport. “We look forward to seeing more travellers enjoy the convenience and new destinations offered by Budapest Airport.”
