With Passenger Terminal Expo (PTE) touching down in London in March, Indian tech giant WAISL will be using virtual reality to demonstrate its system.

The airside part of WAISL’s operating system, called TurnWise, is already garnering attention from operators, who have cited its ability to drive efficiency and increase capacity with more efficient turnarounds and reduced emissions, thereby ensuring efficient taxiing and saving money.

The system is currently deployed at Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport and is installed at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Underlining the importance of face-to-face events, WAISL’s Andy Bordass, said: “The reception of AeroWise since last year’s PTE has been phenomenal. Unlike many technologies introduced and launched, we can point to where it is already up and running and transforming operations.”

The TurnWise element is of particular interest to European and British airports, according to Bordass, because of the capacity issues.

He said: “Our technology utilises digital-twin, advanced AI and the Internet of Things to ensure that efficiencies are identified and maximised.

“The tech monitors all incoming aircraft from 70 miles out and cross-references that data against airport readiness, which allows for strategic planning. And then, as the plane nears the airport, more detailed preparation can be checked.”

The operating system allows resources to be allocated early, weather alerts to be taken into account, and staff allocations to be better resourced.

Bordass noted that one of the problems airports face is that their systems are often siloed and separate. “In the airside part alone, there are many systems which TurnWise integrates so operators can ensure flight throughput.

“The system uses all the data, and where it is working, the feedback from airlines is all positive.”
