Gotland’s only commercial aviation hub – Visby Airport – has unveiled its new fully integrated bag drop system, making it of the first airports in the Nordic region to do so.

Offering an automated solution, the new bag drop system means passengers can check in at home and have their boarding card sent to their mobile or they can use the automated check-in machines at the airport. Although staff will still be available if necessary to help out.

Swedavia, which owns and operates ten airports across Sweden including Visby, is keen to make travel easier for passengers by offering self-service concepts throughout the airport journey. More than 80%  of passengers use some form of self-service overall at Swedavia’s airports with self-service solutions found across Sweden, from Malmo Airport in the south to Kiruna Airport in the north.

“With this modern, innovative bag-drop service, Visby Airport will be an even smoother and more efficient airport,” said Gunnar Jonasson, Visby’s airport director.

“It is gratifying that we can now offer automated solutions for every step of our passengers’ journey at the airport. This investment is an important part of the development work to modernise Visby Airport in preparation for the needs of the future. All development takes place in close collaboration with airlines and other partners at the airport, all to make the travel experience as efficient as possible.”
