The BHS is integral to the future hub as part of an efficient, seamless passenger experience. It will directly impact baggage waiting times, the efficiency of transfers and overall passenger comfort. The BHS will occupy around 80,000 sqm of terminal space with conveyors stretching more than 16km.
The award of the contract follows a procurement procedure which started in 2024 with selected baggage handlers asked to submit final offers in April 2025 before submitting their official bids for the contract in July 2025. During this last part of the process, selected parties were asked to submit details on the net price for the delivery and installation of the BHS, the cost of operation and maintenance for an initial five years from the airport’s opening and an option for an additional five-year extension.
Vanderlande’s bid came in at EUR115 million for delivery and installation, with operation and maintenance costs of PLN 97 million for the first five years and an additional PLN 93 million for the extension.
Meanwhile, according to a statement from CPK, Beumer Group submitted a bid of EUR198 million for the delivery and installation with operation and maintenance costs of PLN 116 million for the basic five-year period and PLN 123 million for the optional extension.
The BHS at CPK will be based on an individual carrier systems with bags transported in individual trays. This ensures 100 per cent tracking and sorting accuracy, while reducing the risk of damage. It allows for modular expansion in line with growing passenger numbers and terminal development.
Construction of CPK’s passenger terminal is due to begin in 2026 with the airport set to become operational by the end of 2032. The multimodal hub will be connected to Warsaw and Lodz with a high-speed rail line.
