Across 28 states in the US, 85 airports are set to benefit from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) funding to help run their operations smoothly and safely during the winter months.

The FAA has allocated more than $76.2 million for snowploughs, de-icing equipment and new or upgraded buildings to store this equipment.

“We can’t let winter weather stop aircraft from safely landing and taking off,” said Shannetta Griffin, Associate Administrator for Airports. “This funding will help keep airports operating this winter and get passengers and cargo to their work, families and vacations safely.”

Airports to benefit from the funding include: Rickenbacker International in Columbus, Ohio, Ted Stevens in Anchorage, Alaska, Ford Airport in Michigan and Boeing Field/ King County in Seattle, which will all benefit from funding to purchase snow removal equipment.

Meanwhile, Atlantic City in New Jersey, Great Falls in Montana, Williston Basin in North Dakota will all receive funding to develop de-icing facilities. Greenbrier Valley Airport in West Virgina, Bellingham International in Washington, Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport in Minnesota and Mammoth Yosemite in California will all receive funding to renovate buildings that house and maintain snow removal equipment.
