Avflight is partnering with BETA Technologies to deploy electric charging infrastructure to four FBOs as part of USD 2.6 million investment.

Two FBOs – Avflight Lansing and Avflight Holland already have charging stations online, while additional charging facilities are being rolled out at Avflight Traverse City and Avflight Willow Run.

The State of Michigan has provided the USD2.6 million funding to support the deployment of Advanced Air Mobility )AAM) infrastructure across key regional airports in Michigan.

BETA, which operates the all-electric ALIA aircraft, celebrated an inaugural charge of its aircraft at Avflight Lansing on 30 July. The electric aerospace company was able to demonstrate the capabilities of the newly commissioned airside charger.

Joe Meszaros, Avflight’s Vice President of Operations said: “These charging stations reinforce Avflight’s long-term commitment to innovation and environmental responsibility while making Michigan a leader in the national push for electric aviation.”

Multimodal and interoperable, BETA’s chargers are designed around the Combined Charging System (CCS) standard. This enables the charging devices to be used on electric aircraft, as well as ground vehicles to help reduce the overall emissions across all modes of airport transportation.

“Michigan has a long track record of innovation when it comes to transportation, and this is yet another example,” said Nate Ward, BETA Technologies’ lead for charging network development.

“The installation of these four chargers, and the state’s support to do so, represents a meaningful step toward advancing AAM, and delivering real benefits to Michigan’s communities and economy.”
