Toulon Hyeres Airport in France has launched a sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) supply for commercial and business aviation companies operating at the airport.

The fuel, which is being supplied by World Fuel Services in collaboration with VINCI Airports, which operates the Toulon hub, will be distributed via a 100% electric refuelling truck, featuring electric propulsion an ddistribution.

Basma Jarbouai, Director of Toulon Hyeres Airport, commented: “This new offer of SAF with a 100% electric vehicle demonstrates once again VINCI Airports’ commitment to the decarbonisation of air transport, which we are applying here at Toulon Hyeres Airport.”

Produced from used cooking oil and able to reduce CO2 emissions by around 80% over its entire lifecycle, the SAF will be distributed in a 30% blend with conventional kerosene. Two other VINCI operated hubs in France supplying SAF include Clermont-Ferrand Auvergne Airport and Grenoble Alpes Isere Airport.

Companies refuelling with SAF at the three French airports will benefit from a bonus under the eco-modulation scheme for landing fees implemented by VINCI Airports since 2020 in France. This system of modulating landing fees (bonus/ malus) according to aircraft CO2 emissions allows companies that emit less CO2 (through the use of a more efficient fleet or refuelling with SAF etc) to benefit from a reduction in their landing fees.
