The new regulation will begin on 7 May 2025, requiring every traveller over the age of 18 to have a REAL ID compliant document, such as a driver’s license or passport. Passengers without REAL ID compliant credentials will face delays, additional checks, and potential refusal of travel.
The guidance states that a Nevada credential is REAL ID compliant if it was issued after July 2021 and should have a white star on a Nevada state shaped background in the top right corner. If it was issued prior to July 2021, appropriate credentials will have a gold circle with a white star in the middle.
The TSA estimates that around 81 per cent of U.S. travellers will have a REAL ID compliant credential already. Currently, Reno-Tahoe airport hosts flights to 25 domestic destinations, such as Atlanta, Portland, and San Diego.
