ACI Europe airport awards 2024

Regional airports across Europe were celebrated for their excellence and outstanding achievements at the ACI Europe Best Airport Awards, which took place in Istanbul, Turkiye, during this year’s ACI Europe Annual General Assembley on 4 July hosted by iGA Istanbul Airport.

Among the winners were Toulon-Hyères Airport in France, which won the “Eco-innovation” award. The French airport was recognised for demonstrating outstanding environmental performance and innovative approach to environmental management. The airport has reduced its direct CO2 emissions by 92.5% from 2018 to 2022, reaching 94.5% at the end of 2023 and by the end of this year it aims to reach over 99%. Sweden’s Goteborg Landvetter Airport was highly commended in this category.

Meanwhile, Hermes Airports, which operates both Larnaka and Pafos airports in Cyprus, was given the HR excellence award. The operator was praised by the judges for showcasing both an individual and collective leadership approach and was particularly commended for its use of engagement survey metrics to measure the success of their HR practices.

In the Under 5 million passengers category, Torino Airport in Italy was awarded Best Airport for its impressive combination of driving traffic recovery through a proactive approach to securing new connectivity. The airport also made huge strides in tackling aviation’s sustainability challenges, inaugurating a new photovoltaic plant last summer to meet a substantial portion of its annual electricity needs. Finavia Rovaniemi Airport in Finland was highly commended in this category.

Meanwhile, in the 5-10 million passenger category, Malta Airport won Best Airport, while Brussels South Charleroi was highly commended. In the 10-25 million passengers category, London Luton Airport was declared the overall winner with Brussels Airport highly commended. Avinor Oslo Airport took the win in the 25-40 million passengers category with Athens International highly commended and finally in the over 40 million passengers, Istanbul and Rome Fiumicino were declared co-winners with Heathrow highly commended.
