Arizona’s Phoenix Sky Harbor saw its busiest day on record on 13 February with more than 200,000 visitors passing through the airport. The airport normally serves 120,000 passengers on an average day.

Crediting the Super Bowl LVII for the swell in traffic, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said: “These numbers speak to the appeal of Phoenix and Arizona as a destination for a high caliber events. Our airport is our front door and I couldn’t be more proud of the work that went in to preparing for these record-breaking numbers.”

Overall 13 February saw 1,691 take-offs and landings, 90,244 passengers screened including charter and private jet operations, 47,206 bags checked, 313 business/ corporate flight operations and 12 charter operations. The airport also prides itself on no wait time at the TSA security checkpoints being longer than 22 minutes on that same day. To accommodate the anticipated surge in passenger traffic, additional teams were brought in to help with security screening while therapy dog teams were on hand in the terminal and 45 volunteers from teh Super Bowl Host Committee were also deployed to assist at the airport.
