Manston Airport has launched its Stage 3 public airspace consultation in its pursuit of approval to reopen as an air freight hub. The consultation will run from 16 March to 22 June, consisting of in-person and online events.
The airport has been closed since 2014, and plans to reopen have been ongoing since 2019, when RiverOak Strategic Partners purchased the site. The government approved plans for a new airport in August 2022, however the decision was delayed following concern from local residents about the airport’s impact on the environment and people.
“This consultation is an important step in our ambitions to reopen Manston Airport, representing a once-in-a-generation opportunity to deliver new runway capacity to support the UK air cargo market and to transform the economic landscape in East Kent,” said Tony Freudmann, Director at RiverOak Strategic Partners. “We know Manston holds a special place in the area’s history, we would encourage people to find out more about our proposal and provide any feedback they might have to help shape our plans.”
