The aim of the AUD 5 billion project is to create “one airport” for Western Australia that will consolidate all commercial flight services into the Airport Central precinct. The plans include a new parallel runway, new terminals facilities, two multi-storey carparks with associated roadworks, an upgrade of Terminal 2, and the airport’s first hotel.
The new 3,000-metre-long runway will run parallel to the existing Main Runway and will increase airport capacity, and is expected to be operational by 2028, while the multi-storey carpark is already under construction.
The expanded Terminal 1 will feature many new retail outlets by the end of 2025, including new shops, restaurants, and bars.
A core focus of the project is designing a smart terminal that enhances efficiency and the passenger experience by using technologies and sustainability initiatives.
“The new terminal facilities will reflect a modern, vibrant and dynamic Western Australia and will provide passengers a world-class experience,” said Perth Airport’s CEO Jason Waters. “With the passenger journey at the top of mind we will create a seamless and intuitive terminal experience for all passengers whether they are starting their journey, transferring or returning home.
