Passengers at Nürnberg Airport are enjoying an enhanced retail experience following the unveiling of an upgraded shopping and culinary experience area in collaboration with duty free and travel food company, Smartseller.

After several months of renovation, the German regional airport’s duty free and food retail area, which opened at the beginning of April, has been hailed a success with passengers enjoying almost double the space. The airport’s duty-free shopping area has been expanded from 650 to around 1,100 sq. m. with the work carried out in phases to minimise disruption to those travelling through the airport.

“From the beginning it was important to us to offer our guests a range of products with a local flavour,” said Sebastian Schafer, MD Smartseller Nürnberg. “We are therefore delighted to have so many strong partners from the region who perfectly complement our concept. The diversity of Nuremberg and Franconia can be experienced particularly well here,” he continued.

The airport’s extensive food and beverage choice are spread over several islands with a wine beer and beer garden. The area also features in-store smartphone-charging stations and beer bottle light installation.

Commenting on the decision to choose Smartseller as its partner for the retail venture, Flughafen Nürnberg Service CFO, Klaus Dotzauer, said it came down to the duty free company’s “expertise in regional airports and their ability to seamlessly integrate retail and dining experiences into a cohesive and innovative offering.”
