Nordic Seaplanes, a dedicated seaplane airline, has partnered with Elfly Group to become the first operator of Noemi, a no emissions, all-electric, amphibious aircraft.

Nordic Seaplanes operates a regional Denmark service between Aarhus and Copenhagen seven days a week, with flights lasting 45 minutes, and is the only scheduled seaplane airline in the world. Currently, Nordic Seaplanes operates a fleet of two DHC-6-300 Twin Otters, but the agreement to purchase the Noemi aircraft highlights the airline’s ambition to work towards sustainability.

“We have a very successful operation with our Twin Otters, but we are excited to embrace a future into 2030 that is electric,” said Ole Christensen.  With Elfly’s Noemi in a 9 seat configuration, we are making an investment in clean technology, sustainability, which will assure our business well into the future, not just for Denmark but as we look to expand into other coastal markets too.”

The contract, signed by Christensen and Eric Lithun, Chairman of the board and CEO of Nordic Seaplanes, comprises of an MoU for five aircraft with an option for a further ten seaplanes, as well as collaboration between the companies to explore coastal markets beyond Scandinavia. The order value is estimated at around 150MUSD.

“We are delighted to partner with Nordic Seaplanes,” commented Elfly CEO Eric Lithun.  “At the outset of our programme we said we would build and operate the aircraft, establishing our own AOC.  However, collaborating with this well positioned European partner, with its wealth of operational experience here and overseas, makes a lot of sense.  We can learn much from them about operating in a challenging environment and together we aim to tap seaplane markets beyond Scandinavia,” he said.  The renaissance of the seaplane is coming.”

Earlier in the year, Elfly Group moved into a new hub at Torp (Sandefjord) Airport in Norway to develop its Noemi aircraft.
