The commercial airport serving Southern Nevada, and formerly known as McCarran International Airport (LAS), has been renamed Harry Reid International Airport, after the US Senate Leader, who represented Nevada in Congress from 1983 to 2017. Reid advanced legislation that allowed for the completion of Terminal 3 at LAS in 2012, and the construction of the new air traffic control facility that opened in 2016. He was also integral in securing the land that will serve as the future site of the Southern Nevada Supplemental Airport.

While immediate changes will be noticeable on the airport’s social media channels, passengers will continue to see the former airport name in various locations as the airport’s transition continues.

The Board of County Commissioners, which oversees Clark County Department of Aviation voted in February, 2021 to change the name of LAS from McCarran Airport with all funds used in the process received from private donations. It is estimated the cost of renaming the airport and all the associated branding will cost $7.2 million in total and will be divided into three phases:

Phase one will cover community to curb and will include the signage around the airport, such as road signs and other airport markers and social media channels. Phase two (curb to gates) will entail all signage and other markers within the airport terminals. Phase three (airport operations) will include the uniforms, vehicle decals and other administrative items.
