A wholly owned City of Doncaster Council (CDC) company, FlyDoncaster will benefit from operational and management support from MAI, as well as UK aviation specialist, FP Airports.
The airport is slated for reopening in 2026, for which it has been reported more than GBP1 million of public funding will be required. Chancellor of the Exchequer, Rachel Reeves, recently confirmed her support for the airport restarting operations. It closed in 2022 after its owner Peel Group said the site was no longer financially viable
Marking a milestone
Describing the airport reopening as a “number one priority”, Mayor Ros Jones said the partnership marks “another significant milestone”.
“Munich Airport International has the pedigree in the field of aviation, shares our ambition for a successful airport, and they bring a wealth of experience, capacity and influence to work with us to deliver a thriving airport in Doncaster that will be a major economic stimulus for Doncaster, South Yorkshire and the North,” added Jones.
“The team at FP Airports has worked with us creatively to put together the right solution for DSA and we are confident that the reopening and future operation of Doncaster’s airport is in good hands.
Jones was joined by Lorenzo Di Loreto, Managing Director Munich Airport International, who offered his support saying: “Our mission is to participate in the development of the airport in Doncaster into a top modern and competitive UK airport and to make it an engine and driver for social, economic and environmental growth in Doncaster and its region.”
