Germany’s Munich Airport has once again been voted Europe’s Best Airport at the london-based aviation research institute Skytrax’ annual World Airport Awards.

The Bavarian hub was awarded the title on the basis of a passenger survey and this year marked the 14th time in the last 16 years the airport has been voted Europe’s Best Airport.

“This enormous appreciation encourages us to manage the current difficult situation and is at the same time a great motivation to strive to ensure that our airport can soon regain a top position among hub airports in terms of passenger volume as well,” said Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport.

Munich also achieved sixth place in the global ranking. Doha Hamad Airport in Qatar took the title as the World’s Best Airport, knocking Singapore Changi from its spot. Having held the top spot for eight years, Singapore Changi came in third place this year, after Tokyo Haneda Airport.

Meanwhile Chubu Centrair Nagoya in Japan won the World’s Best Regional Airport Award, followed by Hamburg Airport in second place and Fukuoka Airport in Japan in third place.

Riki Inuzuka, President and CEO of Central Japan International Airport said: “It is a great honour to receive the prestigious award of World’s Best Regional Airport once again this year. Due to the spread of the COVID-19, the aviation industry around the world is in an extremely difficult situation. In spite of all this, all staff at Centrair continued to work hard to provide a safe and secure environment for our customers. In addition, our efforts to prevent the spread of viruses and to improve services to offer a comfortable time for our customers have been thankfully evaluated. Encouraged by this award, we will continue to work as ‘Team Centrair’ to improve our safe and secure environment services to meet the expectations of our customers.”
