Munich Airport has been accredited by ACI World for its commitment to barrier-free travel, making it the first German airport to achieve Level 1 of ACI World’s Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation (AEA) programme.
The programme supports airports in measuring, evaluating and improving their accessibility management and accessibility culture to ensure a seamless travel experience for all passenger groups.
AEA is the only international assessment and accreditation programme specifically dedicated to airport accessibility for people with disabilities. It takes a holistic approach, as in addition to infrastructure the assessment also considers strategy and management, processes, training, and corporate culture.
The evaluation criteria include, among other things, accessible entrances and wayfinding systems; PRM service quality; digital, information and communication services; support services for travellers with limited mobility; increasing awareness among airport employees; and collaboration with disability organisations.
In addition, the assessment evaluates the integration of accessibility into corporate strategy and management, the application of design principles, and compliance with national and international standards. The goal is to ensure a seamless travel experience for all passenger groups.
The Level 1 accreditation underscores Munich Airport’s strong commitment to people with disabilities and those with reduced mobility. After successfully achieving Level 1, the focus is now on the next stage of the AEA programme, with Munich Airport’s next goal being to achieve Level 2.
