The announcement follows Menzies Aviation’s Head of Middle East, Africa and Asia, Abdoulaye Cisse, telling the audience at the Aviation Africa summit (which was held in Sandton 16-17 September) that the ground handling company currently has 45 stations and 27 lounges across the continent with its operations spanning 18 countries. “Our target is to be present in all 54 African countries,” Cisse told delegates.
Menzies has been operational at the airport since 2018, operating as National Aviation Services until 2022. It previously offered two contemporary lounges at the airport (in both its domestic and international terminals), before expanding its portfolio to deliver comprehensive Meet and Assist and ground handling services. The new state-of-the-art facility in Mozambique represents a significant expansion in Menzies’ footprint across East Africa and enables them to handle cargo at Maputo, thus increasing Mozambique’s freight capacity.
Airline customers, including launch customers Airlink and Qatar Airways, using the facility will benefit from high quality, efficient and safe services.
AlAnood AlSuwaidi, SVP Cargo MEAA, Menzies Aviation, said: “We’re thrilled to cut the ribbon on our new cargo warehouse in Mozambique. This cutting-edge facility will allow us to provide best in class services to our airline customers while supporting East Africa’s air cargo sector. This represents the next exciting step in Menzies’ cargo expansion strategy, which has seen us expand our footprint right across the globe.”
