Marking a return of direct connectivity between Malaysia and Queensland, Malaysia Airlines is reinstating flights to Brisbane as of November 2025.

The flag carrier’s flights, which will be operated five times per week with A330-300 aircraft, are expected to generate AUS54 million for the local economy in the first year.

In addition to boosting passenger traffic, the restoration of non-stop air connectivity between the two destinations will also support trade between the two cities. Malaysia is Queensland’s seventh largest export destination, with Queensland beef being a top export to Malaysia.

“We are delighted to welcome back Malaysia Airlines and the additional connectivity it brings to Brisbane,” said Gert-Jan de Graff, Brisbane Airport CEO. The air transport hub is celebrating 100 years of growth this year.

“The airline boasts a robust Southeast Asian network, strong connections into Europe and serves 10 Indian hubs, where demand is growing.” he continued.

Commenting on how the additional seats means additional visitors, Queensland’ Minister for Finance, Trade, Employment and Training, Ros Bates, said, “Whether it’s adventure tourism, like snorkelling or mountain biking, or enjoying nature on our fantastic beaches, or the wonderful rainforests of the Tropical North – there’s something for everyone.”

He also noted, “We’ll also be sending those plane cargo holds back to Asia, and on to Europe, filled with the very best of Queensland exports, so it’s a great economic win for our state.”
