London International Airport, Ontario, has celebrated the first of three inaugural flights from ultra low-cost carrier Swoop with the launch of services to Edmonton International Airport.

The service is the first of three new routes launching in London International Airport, Swoop’s newest destination, with service to Abbotsford, BC, and Halifax, NS beginning on 24 May 2019.

“Today’s inaugural flight to Edmonton marks the start of an exciting expansion to our Canadian network by Swoop” said Michael Seabrook, CEO and President of London International.

“We are now the second focus city in Ontario for Swoop service,” he said, adding that, “We think these news flights will really catch on with travellers, and success with these flights means more destinations from Swoop in the future.”

The inaugural flight from Edmonton International Airport to London International Airport was welcomed by a water cannon salute on arrival at London and passengers at both airports were invited to join a gate celebration including refreshments, sweet treats and gifts for passengers.

“The kick-off to our summer schedule and beginning of a very busy inaugural season starts with today’s flight between London, ON and Edmonton, AB,” said Steven Greenway, president of Swoop. “Over the course of the next two months we will be celebrating the launch of seven new routes and further establishing our place as a top choice for travellers in the Canadian ultra-low cost space.”

Tom Ruth, president and CEO of Edmonton International Airport said the airport was “very pleased to have this connection into Southwestern Ontario with the new daily, non-stop service to London,” adding, “Destinations like London create excellent travel options for Edmontonians travelling to Ontario, while also supporting tourism and business growth in our region.”
