Lome Airport receives US-funded security equipment

To bolster passenger and staff safety at Togo’s main airport, the US Embassy has donated advanced scanners and explosive trace detectors to Lome.

Gnassingbe Eyadema International Airport in Lome has been donated four explosive trace detectors, four advanced imaging body scanners and related accessories. The equipment was provided by the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) in a handover ceremony.

“This handover demonstrates our shared commitment to effective and cooperative civil aviation security,” said Richard C. Michaels,, Head of Affairs at the US Embassy in Togo.

Boosting security for both passengers and personnel

According to Togo’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC), the support will help address current security challenges, while better protecting both passengers and airport personnel.

Plans are afoot to establish the airport as a regional airport, with Lome looking to step up safety initiatives.
